It is safe to say that 2021 was not the year that we asked for or expected, yet it seems crazy that we are approaching the end of it. With better hopes for 2022, you might find yourself cooking up some resolutions to kick off the new year. But what improvements can you make to yourself and your current habits?
1. Give Regularly to Charity
Donating money to charity is something that we often forget about unless prompted by national days or memorials that are dedicated to charities. This new year, you might make a habit of donating to charity on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc).
It does not matter how often or how much; every contribution makes a significant difference. This is also a great way to acquaint yourself with various issues and charities as you can donate to a different charity on every separate occasion.
2. Drink Enough Water
In theory, this one sounds easy yet it is one that so many of us fail. In fact, a recent study found that just 22% of Americans drink the recommended 8-10 glasses a day. In order to keep track of your water intake, you can download mobile apps, use health journals, or purchase a marked water bottle.
3. Be More Active
A whopping 86% of American workers find themselves sitting all day at work; if you are part of this statistic you may want to increase your physical activity this year. Not only are office jobs detrimental to our physical activity, but the Covid-19 lockdown resulted in a lot of us being glued to our sofas. Make it your mission to go for daily walks and regular bike rides or runs; your fitness and mental wellbeing will certainly feel the benefit!
4. Make More Time for Your Loved Ones
After a long day, it can be tempting to shut yourself away. Though mental wellbeing and unwinding are vitally important, too much alone time can create distance between you and your loved ones. Make the time to call your parents, grandparents, siblings, or friends on a regular basis. Not only will this improve your relationship, but they will be touched by the appreciation that you display towards them.
Similarly, we are all guilty of sitting in the same room as our partner whilst we scroll through our phones and do not interact with each other. Make an effort to put your phone down and actually talk or even just watch a show together. You will feel much closer to one another, and your relationship will benefit in the long run.
5. Develop A Sleep Routine
Going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day is greatly beneficial to your sleep quality. Furthermore, you should aim to have between 6 and 9 hours of sleep every night; this will ensure that you are in your most refreshed state. Sleeping less than this will leave you exhausted whilst sleeping more than this will leave you sluggish.
6. Develop A Skincare Routine
A skincare routine does not have to be complicated or intimidating; in most cases, you will just need a good cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. It is important to research what is necessary for your skin type, whether you have oily, dry, or combination skin. The right skincare routine for you will leave you glowing.
Of course, the possibilities are endless when it comes to resolutions, and they must be personal to you. Whatever you choose, make sure it adds something positive to your life; the best way to achieve is to add things to your life rather than take things away. Here’s to a prosperous new year!
